Excellent tip! I've got a tube of Autosol in the shop, and I'm going to give this a try this weekend.

IIRC, military types used this method to polish the brass that they wore on their uniforms-using foil wrappers from packages of gum.
This was a while back when young men were lucky enough to win the lottery.

Here's an etch (Simond's MFG Co) I worked on today, with the AL foil, and Meguiar's Med polish (could not find Autosol).
I don't think that it was affected.

I have used DuPont #7 clear coat polishing compound...works as well as Autosol or SemiChrome. Lots cheaper also.
