Is this what I think it is?

I have to disagree with stwood for a number a reasons. First, any saw can be upgraded with a Bies style fence. Second, Grizzly never had a detailed plinth like this one (not to mention it looks pretty clear that it's a ffu). Hand wheels are typical vintage Delta. And lastly, Grizzly didn't have a front dust door if I'm not mistaken.

Okay, I think I have learned that a "39" is a unisaw made in 1939, right? Not sure why that is special, but what really is bothering me is I cannot decode "ffu"?

The added significance of 1939 is it was the first year the Unisaw was made and sold. Serial numbers for the earliest saws began with letter followed by three numbers (A123). It's guesstimated by brains bigger than mine that there were 3500ish four footed saws made.

Stwood, where'd your post go in which you thought it was an old Grizzly?

I'm inclined to say that it probably isn't an old Unisaw. I could be wrong though. Every Unisaw I have ever seen has a seam on the front. Best as I can tell from the OP pic, that one does not.
Here is a for sure one from OWWM for reference.

Hard to tell from the picture, but there does appear to be a seam down the front. The feet definitely look right.

I have a touch screen if you pull the picture in you can see a seam

I looked at it on my work computer blown up and on a tablet but I cannot see the seam. I hope it is there though. Looking again, the adjusting wheels do not appear to have the lock knobs either. Not sure if all Unis had those or not.
When do you find out? |
