fence on old wooden plow plane
#4
I recently bought an old wooden Sandusky plow plane that's in pretty good shape, with one exception: the fence is not perpendicular to the base. It's not parallel to the skate against which the iron rests. It's canted back a bit. It also has a slight hollow. Should I try to straighten it out on my jointer plane, or some similar fix?

I am assuming that it is a user plane and the answer is "YES". Wooden planes were adjusted by their users as the wood wore and changed shape. Be careful and take very light shavings when tuning. And good luck.

Thanks, and yes, this is absolutely a user.
