Trust me when I tell you that the finish is the real star of the show.
It's easy enough to muddle up great figure with amateur finish schedule.

Really outstanding work.

It's so hard to get nice Cherry out here.

Beautiful piece.

Set a six figure price on the next one or else you will never manage to keep one for yourself and your wife.

The wood is the real star of the show on this one. All I did was put some stuff together and put some hardware on it. The wood on this piece is just stunning and is what really makes the piece one of my favorites that I have built to date

Humble, too.

Dave, you produce fantastic furniture!

Thanks for posting, and if you have more pics, post away!

Absolutely stunning! Really!
I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left.

Dave, what can you tell me about the hardware? Is it modern? I tried to blow up the pic to get a better look, but can't see much.

Greg,
That hardware is the C7 pattern from Ball and Ball. I based this piece on a wardrobe located at the Peter Wentz farmstead in PA. The hardware is a copy of what was on the original. When I do build one of these for myself I will probably try to make an exact copy but this one had some changes made for practical purposes requested by the customer.

The finish on this piece took me awhile to complete. I can give you a basic rundown of the schedule though. I started by using a chemical ager to darken the cherry then followed up with an oil varnish mixture to help bring out the figure. After that I built the finish with dewaxed shellac. Once the finish was built up I glazes the piece to add an aged look to the moldings and crevices. After that I added on more coat of shellac and a final coat of satin lacquer. I then used a dark wax ind various forms of grime to enhance the aged look a little. If you see close up shots of the moldings and doors as well as around the hardware this detail really shows up. Like I said not exactly an easy finish to pull off but with wood like this you can't just shoot some finish on it and expect it too look stunning.
