Making Knives & Leather Carving?
#4
My nephew is into knives. Apparently, he makes them, although I have no idea what this involved. (I'm pretty sure he's not forging metal.) I'm trying to steer this interst towards a positve craft/hobby, rather than "dude, that's an awesome knife" kind of thing.

I recall that folks here have posted websites of some people making really beautiful knives -- but I can't find the posts. Anyone have any ideas?

Also -- Leather carving. I don't know anything about this, but the newphew does this as well. Anyone here know anything about leather carving? Some websites? Books?

Thanks in advance.

I hope everyone is well and having a great holiday season.

Stone,

Check out www.woodbarter.com, it's another good woodworking forum (created for swapping and "bartering" wood"), but there are lots of good subforums, including Knife Making. Lots of really nice knives made and shown, and the makers are not shy about telling their process and offering up sound advice for others to try their hand at making a knife.

I've watched several of this guys videos...

Post up some pics of your nephews knives!

There are organizations, magazines, and shows regarding knife making and collecting. They are listed in Knife Magazine-formerly Knife World. Shows listed have custom knives, custom knifemakers, and knife making supplies along with other areas of knifemaking.
