Metal spinning
#6
Just tried my hand at metal spinning of a sort. A friend needed a pewter button so I turned a hard maple mandrel, found a piece of old pewter in a junk store and formed the pewter (about .03 thick) around the mandrel. polished it and cut it off and wala, a button.

It is always the right time, to do the right thing.

It can be a dangerous endeavor, with disks flying about your shop, dont stand in plane with the stock.
Be careful.

I’ve done a couple of pieces, 1 aluminum and a few copper pieces, I tuned the moulds from Maple and forced/spun them over that, here’s a link to a post on SMC with a couple of pictures of pieces I made.
