Finishing a small cherry box. I used a water based dye to darken the cherry. Can I now put a coat of BLO on top?

Great question John. I have decided to go right to the final top coat which is a wipe on poly.

If you use an oil based finish you are OK. But if you use waterborne it will diminish the grain. Do a test and see if you like the results. BLO will bring up the grain but so will a couple quick coats of shellac. That will just take a couple hours not the ~1 week BLO does.
