Removing plating
#5
I picked up a Stanley 148 on the cheap, and it works well. Issue is a lot of the plating is gone and what remains flakes with use, resulting in nasty metal slivers. Any suggestions as to how to remove the remaining plating? I guess the plating issue is why a felliw galoot let this plane go for so cheap-he must not have liked the slivers either!

Thanks in advance!

+1 ...... that is what I have done on a couple of my old tools, followed with a good waxing.

When they get to that point a bit of careful scraping with a razor blade can lift it right off.
