Audio set up with Streaming device
#9
May be this is not a right forum, if so excuse me for posting.

I have a Sony STR DE835 audio receiver in excellent condition.Unfortunately it does not have the new functionality such as Air Play, Bluetooth streaming or Network connection to locate my music files on my house network hard drive
Is there any device readily available that can be attach to this receiver , which can receive music from my Iphone, also search music files on home network and play those files.

I was thinking of using Roku 3, which can access media files on the server as well as accept AirPlay.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Get this. You plug a headphone jack into it and then connect to your audio in of your receiver. I have two. One on my receiver in the house and another for my shop speakers. Works well and sounds OK.

Have a smart phone around? I use an older one plugged up to a set of speakers in my shop. I am sure you could use the speaker jack and a cable as the input.
I have found how much a boat is used is inversely related to how much it weighs.

Yes, Bluetooth adapters are cheap and work well. I too use an old smartphone, along with a receiver, speakers and a bluetooth adapter as my music source in the shop. Works great.

I bought a "JBL Charge" for the shop; also for the garage, when fishing, where ever, with an old smartphone loaded with music and if wifi is available, Pandora. Lasts 10 hours or more, pretty good sound. this is the older one, they have better ones that last 20.

Won't access network music files, but I would assume a lot of that is available through your phone.

My laptop with all my music is in a 2nd floor bedroom. The music is needed in my basement "studio". The dongle is supposed to transmit up to 10 meters (30 ft). I mounted the receiver near the ceiling of my studio and connected to an old set of computer speakers. Its great to be able to select 8 hours of Brubeck or Miles or anyone else & sing along while I make sawdust & kindling wood.

Chromecast Audio.  Best inexpensive device out there.  Has a decent DAC too so it sounds good. Install BubbleUPNP on a phone or tablet to control it & you're all set.
