Olive wood
#10
After some longer time I was lucky enough to work Olive again. Just a fantastic wood. It's easy to work and smells incredibly well while working it. It's always a surprising thing to see the figure of the wood on the handle top after it was bandsawed.

That is gorgeous. And it seems like you lucked out a bit on the grain orientation for maximum strength, where you have some interlocked grain where the handle is typically weakest. The only thing that would make that saw any more beautiful is patina from years of use.

I never get tired of seeing your work in olive wood. One of these days I'm going to have to get myself some olive and see what it's like in person.

Thanks, mumu.

Usually our saw handles get a Tru-Oil finish. Oily woods like Olive won't be finished with TO since it might interfere with the woodown oil. So this handle got a finish of pure Carnauba wax. Several coats however. It doesn't create a brilliant laquer glance, more a noble shimmer. But the feel is great.

Out of all the saws on the forum, yours are my favorites.  I will buy one someday.  The olive wood killer....
