No. 6 plane: What's it good for?

The best plane I found in the wild was Record #6 from about 1952.It is as well made as you will find in a Bailey style plane.  I also found a Swedish Anchor # 6 from about 1952 as well. Those are the only two #6 I have ever seen, wild or otherwise. Lot's of #4s and #5s, some #3s, four #7s, one only of #5 1/2 and #4 1/2 each.

This Clifton #6 is a fantastic plane.  I bought it ( 2007) to flatten my bench...it did a fantastic job! I love it.  I have a Stanley #8 but this #6 out performs it IMHO on many levels.
