I am making a box of shop made veneers that are ~1/16" thick each. I used a 1/4" hardboard substrate and it has worked out fine for this box, but I wonder if there isn't something better if I want to screw hinges into the box sides or something. MDF and hardboard aren't great at holding screws. Baltic birch ought to be better, right? Maybe some QS hardwood would be best?
That is my question: what do you think is the best ~1/4" thick substrate for smaller boxes, say no length greater than 16" or so, that will remain flat and hold screws?
