Early Disston saws
#10
It seems like I can go years without finding early Disston saws, today I find two.

Both came from the same flea market, two different vendors though. I believe both are late 1840's to early 1850's. The first medallion is a full sized saw, the second is a backsaw.

You tease!

Show us the rest of the saws!
...Naval Aviators, that had balz made of brass and the size of bowling balls, getting shot off the deck at night, in heavy seas, hoping that when they leave the deck that the ship is pointed towards the sky and not the water.

Now to make me feel even worse, how much did you have to plop down for them? I bet it was five bucks a piece.

Now, now, that is a "rust hunter" secret.

Oh, and Steve, great find, but you suck!!  Keep hunting, you're on a roll here!

Mike Stemple says that Disston stopped making the "double eagle" saws in 1855.

He recently joined the Saw Collecting group on Facebook and has been very active, posting many pictures of his collection. The full name of the group is "Saws, using, collecting, cleaning and restoring".

Nice find!  The backsaw's handle looks to be in very good condition.  These were Disston saws before the "Sons" were added.  Let us know how they sharpen up.  Steel that old worries me sometimes.

Mike has a excellent collection. He has a couple that I sent his way. Great guy.

That's interesting about the double eagle, I didn't know that. It's hard to believe this saw is over 160 years old.
