I am looking at the Whiteside site and I'm not seeing that:

I think it might be that the T&G assembly shows as a single bit you can rearrange for the two cuts and the shaker set is two bits

Seems silly to me but that is all I can conclude

That post you made showing this T&G cutter. Look at the lower pic, and squint if you need to, but the carbide sits at a 5* angle to the plate. At least on mine it does. It's very subtle, and on the cut you'll never notice it, but it probably goes along the same thought as putting stock into a planer at a slight angle so to make a shearing cut (more efficient), as opposed to a flat cut (more heat, less efficient) I think that may be what Joe was referring to.

I'm not positive, but that 5* occurs on a lot of their slot type cutters. Plus the Shaker is 2 bits, as opposed to a single adjustable one, I'd bet that is the price difference.

Whiteside has the 5990 shaker set but they do not have a bevel.  You can always run an edge bevel bit if you want that effect, no 5 degree but there is a 7 degree.  Whiteside does the have 5980 raised panel bit that has a 15 degree bevel on it.
