Grease is made to lubricate moving parts like the o rings on swivel spouts and stem packing. It is also used as an anti seize on handle splines and screws. It is not a sealant.

Teflon tape is NOT a sealant. Don't use it on compression fittings, etc, only npt.
Thanks for that information.

I have to replace the bleeder valves on my baseboard hot water heaters.  The slotted screw bleeders are so buggered up from 64 years of use that they won't work anymore.

Do I use plumbers' grease or teflon tape for that application.

Online they are showing tape:

Tape. Clean it off the bottom, don't let it wrap over the inlet of the valve.
