How did you keep the dye off the diamonds in the center feature ring? I'm thinking of using dyes to put katchina faces on my work but am worried about the dyes bleeding into each other. Right now I'm doing prototypes using different woods but man is that a lot of work.

Angus I used an air brush to apply the dye after masking the diamonds, I used reg Masking tape but I will use Frog tape (Green) or painters Tape (Blue)  next time. I too want to paint figures on my work it will be very hard w/ a brush because the colors will bleed into each other. One way around this is w/ the air brush set w/ a fine spray and fine point, the other is to mask off and cut away where you want the colors only removing one color at a time.  also they make a brush on rubber mask but I haven't tried it on wood yet. here's a link for one of type of mask
