Been following this thread and it seems that there is some "cross communication" going on. Bob, are you cutting a recessed hand-hold in a board or a through hand-hold? Very different technique for these two.

Bob's project is cutting out a handhole like in the pic of the box that I posted.

Here is his projected project

That's a project right up my alley.  Most of my woodworking projects in the last few years have been beer related.

If the goal for this project is to build the center board for this growler holder, I would build a template to match the whole board.  With a template that had both the handle and curved top, it would be easy to use a template to cut the curve and handle all at once.

I have about dozen done not in a hurry I want to stockpile 50 before I make any noise about them.  I have changed the design a bit so 3 slats instead of solid sides or bottom.  I picked up a stack of white oak 5/16" flooring yesterday that is good for the slats have to see what those look like

That is what I did, just not the first time around as I was focused on making the hand holds because they will be used on a few things I have planned

Here is my version of that build.  It's even more rustic.

The containers here are Stainless Steel Growlers.  I was building 22 oz bomber crates out of pallet wood and decided to make a 4 pack growler carrier.  I finished it off with a sisal rope handle.

White oak flooring 5/16 x 2 I thought it would work out well with another stack of white oak but that stack is about 1/2" too narrow.
I am going to do some with box joints using Ash from the Pews I picked up a while back.  I have to free up some space and all told I have about 25 pews worth of Ash and white oak.  Just remembered I had the white oak from the pews, glad I didn't make it to the lumber yard today after all.  Yes I squeak on occasion
