Question
I hope someone can identify the purpose for a tool that's turned up locally (central Maine). It's about 12 inches in length and obviously craftsman made (from an old file); the ferrule is a large brass nut. The business end of the tool is convex on both sides, very nicely tapered in thickness from the shank to the tip, and the edges are knife sharp. My guesses are it might be some sort of specialty knife, something similar to a Japanese spear plane, or possibly some sort of custom scraper for machine ways. Any ideas out there?  Here are some pics:

Looks similar to a bearing scraper.
