Sliding cabinet door for pantry. Hardware or no?

I am going to do something similar. I will rout or dado two slots , in the top and bottom rails. Two slots with a 1/8" space between them allows the doors to bypass each other.
I have scraps of Formica that I will rip to glue under the doors. Makes a good sliding surface. Finger holes instead of knobs. Inexpensive but works well. Similar to a medicine cabinet doors.
