Improve the Rikon 10" Bandsaw Trunnion

If you own the 10 inch Rikon/Craftsman bandsaw you've probably had this problem too.  You remove the table to clean and adjust the lower guides and the trunnion bolt falls inside the trunnion bracket.

You have two choices:

1 Hold the table over your head and shake it like an Etch-A-Sketch hoping the bolt pops out.

2 Unbolt the trunnion bracket from the cast-iron table and fish the bolt out.


Here's a picture of the bolt stuck inside the bracket:

I cut a piece of 1/2" MDF as shown:

Placed it inside the trunnion bracket like so:

Now the bolt can't fall into the trunnion bracket even with the table upside down as shown.

The piece of MDF is a loose fit.  If I shake the table the MDF rattles.  The sloppy fit allows the bolt to still slide along its arc but prevents the bolt from falling inside the bracket.
