Some time ago, I asked for ideas about wood to contrast with koa and someone suggested ebony so I went with it. It's a wedding gift for someone we've gotten to know in Maui - heading over next week for the festivities. 7 rows (18 per row) with a solid bottom and measures 6" tall x 5.25" across. Finished in semi-gloss wipe on poly - question whether to add wax. Photography skills not even close to what I see around here, but you get the idea. Heading to Maui for a wedding and this will be part of the gift.

A quick search on waxing over poly. Basically, it adds little protection, but does provide a nicer short lived shine and feel. One article from Wood Magazine used automotive paste wax, (that had some abrasives in it), as a last step to polish out scratches left by 1500 grit or brown paper final sanding.

Since it is a wedding present, and a decorative piece, it appears that waxing might be the "Coups de Grace" you want.

Try Meguiar's carnuba wax. Shines up really nice.

Oh...very nice turning. I like the Koa and Ebony.

Very nice.
