Oh yeah GJs comment reminds me - use a fixed jig for the miter cuts and register the same end of the workpiece on a fixed positive stop for all of the miter cuts. That will go far to keep the knot centered on itself. The knot can then be centered on the length of the workpiece by trimming off one end or the other.
