I do have an old adjustable photographic light stand. I think I will mount it upside down over the table saw and use it to raise and lower a blade guard with dust extraction.
I replaced that stand with sturdier versions so it is not being used. I will let you know how it works out.
I would remove the tripod section entirely, and mount it upside down from the ceiling joist just above the blade. It adjusts from about 2 feet in length to six feet. So I could lift it up out of the way and then lower it as required. I will have to fabricate a guard from plexiglass and add a hose for extraction but it does not sound too difficult.
