I'm also interested in the original problem and all the nonsense is burying useful information.
I've had mine for a few years now and have never activated the brake, but similar to what BrentDH mentioned, I didn't think there a a mechanism in the brake that allowed the blade to be lowered slowly.
At the beginning of each session, with the MAIN POWER ON and the MOTOR OFF, after it has gone through its checks, I touch the side of the blade to make sure it registers my finger.
If a part of the system is showing signs of electrical failure given a certain condition or elapsed time, I'd very much like to know.
I think it's a good saw, and approach it as if it didn't have a brake, but risk of electrical failure kinda renders the technology useless.
