You are never too old to learn new skills. I bought the CNC mainly to keep my brain engaged, and it's working.
They make CNC's from little desktop machines that cost just a couple hundred $'s up to large industrial monsters. At around $1K you can get a pretty capable machine that you can sit on a small bench. I went with something larger figuring I would never need to upgrade, but much of the stuff I do could be done on a machine with a 16 x 24" work area.
If you can draw detailed drawings by hand, then you can learn to draw on a computer. The video tutorials I watched to learn the VCarve CAD/CAM software I use are excellent and easy to follow.
And you're never too old to have fun.
