Removing plating - Tony Z - 05-04-2016 I picked up a Stanley 148 on the cheap, and it works well. Issue is a lot of the plating is gone and what remains flakes with use, resulting in nasty metal slivers. Any suggestions as to how to remove the remaining plating? I guess the plating issue is why a felliw galoot let this plane go for so cheap-he must not have liked the slivers either! Thanks in advance! T. Re: Removing plating - Joe Bailey - 05-04-2016 use a brass wire brush or wheel Re: Removing plating - Window Guy - 05-05-2016 +1 ...... that is what I have done on a couple of my old tools, followed with a good waxing. Steve Re: Removing plating - bridger - 05-05-2016 When they get to that point a bit of careful scraping with a razor blade can lift it right off. |
