Millers Falls eggbeater Side Handle thread type? - C. in Indy - 05-02-2017

Greetings,

I have picked up a very old Millers Falls No. 5.   The "chambered" main handle is a lovely true rosewood item, so I'd like to keep this eggbeater drill for personal use.

I do have 2 deficiencies to deal with...

(1.)  The entire side-knob (detachable threaded item, concentric with the Main Gear) is missing.   Would anyone know the typical thread size for this knob?

(2.)   The gear-knob (near perimeter of main-gear) is missing; but its unthreaded post remains.   Not to worry, I like a challenge like that for generating a "split turning...." like below on a brace I once repaired....

Any thoughts on question (1.) are appreciated!

Chris

MF did not use bast**d size threads like Stanley, the side chef hat knob uses a standard screw size, go to the store and match one up.

Thanks for the tip & encouragement!   Just got home and tried a 5/16-18NC tap, which looked to be right.  Bonus, I have some matching bolts including brass toilet bolts, which can be good raw material.

Nice pictures of replacement of the crank handle on a brace...not sure what it has to do with your question, unless it was just a driveby gloat.
