which edge plane? LN or LV
#32
The edge planes are, like many other tools, nice to have planes. I dont have any of them because I can do whatever they re made to do with bench planes. I have the skill to edge plane any edges true and straight with a bench plane.

However, between having three dozens of paring/chopping chisels or six dovetail saws or five marking knives AND owning a non-essential edge plane, I would pick the latter and use it to fine tune cabinet inset doors, create a nice reveal around drawers, remove saw marks, cut shallow rabbets, break or chamfer edges, thickness plane inlay strips and more.

I can find good use of a hand tool as long as it is sharp and well made.
