The bowl and pvc, even ABS, enhance sound vibrations. Wood of high density and hardness do the same. Ebony and Blackwood can do this. It would be a fun project to design a speaker that could accommodate evolving iterations of phones. What about an old Gramophone?

Not as loud as pvc one, but less tinny sounding.
