Finally pulled the trigger... |

I have been fighting issues with an old contractor's saw for years. I have talked about getting a 3 HP cabinet saw for several years but just wouldn't break down and spend the money. Well, I sold my old boat over the weekend and (at my wife's insistence!) ordered a new saw today.
I had been going back and forth between a Grizzly G0690 and G1023RL for quite a while. Wood Magazine had versions of each in their 3 HP reviews in the latest issue, but I still couldn't decide, so I gave the product specialists at Grizzly a call this afternoon. I was connected with Richard in their technical call center. I was actually a bit surprised that he encouraged me to go for the less expensive G1023RL. He went through the features of both saws and why the G1023RL was the right choice for me. He could have easily pushed me to spend a couple of hundred dollars more, but was genuinely interested in matching me with the best saw for my shop.
He was very knowledgeable about their products and also very helpful. I know even the mention of Grizzly tends to bring out people at both ends of the spectrum, but I am thrilled with how easy they made the decision and ordering process.
Now I just have to be patient and wait for my new saw to be delivered!

That building a frame for a bed, would be so complicated?
When you need to do this much work, just to make two ( yes, there are two sitting there) headboard posts...
to make rails to hold a padded panel between the posts, a 2 x 4 needed tenons made..
and grooves to house the panel..milled...dryfits?
Did i mention, this will be for a Queen sized bed?
Even fitted (without the screws and glue) the rail where the mattress hits the headboard..
Short section was added, to keep this heavy object from falling over, onto something..like me
Short post is for the foot board. Need to cut down a 2 x 10 x 8' into the rail across the foot of the bed. Then find out the length for the two side rails. and cut those.
Side rails will get installed using a pair of counter-bored lag screws with washers at each end. Need to be able to assemble/disassemble the bed, for when it needs to be moved...
Head and foot boards will get glued and counter-bored screws, with plugs. Waiting on the Boss to pick up the padding and the fabric to add to the 1/2" thick plywood panel..before the glue and screws get installed. debate still going on about the tops of the posts.....beveled, rounded over, copper caps.....we'll see. Choice of finish? up to the Boss.
Oh, and she wants a small bedside table, too...to match the frame...nothing fancy, of course
Stay tuned, the cussing has begun

Hey,
I would really like to see the David Charlesworth "Plane Sharpening" and "Precision Planing" DVDs but they are $30 per DVD plus shipping on Lie Nielsens website. Wondering if anyone has these sitting on a shelf and would be willing to part with them. I checked with my local libraries and i can't find them. Let me know if there is anyone that would be willing to sell them to me!
Thanks!
Eli

Brazilian Rosewood ownership question |

Good morning, I have questions about Brazilian Rosewood.
Here's my situation.
In the years between the 20s to the mid 70s Springfield Vt. was a
world machinist center in the US. The shops made many people
quite wealthy during this time and as a result there were several small
1-3 men woodworking shops that catered to the very rich.
All of the woodworking shops that were in production in the 50s 60s have
all closed and the craftsman of the time have all passed. Some of the woodworking
shops sat for decades gathering dust and rust.
I have a piece of Brazilian Rosewood that came from one of these woodworking shop
that was brought here in the late 50sor early 60s but no way to document it.
Has anyone here gone through the process of legally owning
pre banded Brazilian Rosewood that could give me advice on how to start the process?
Thanks
Bud

I made some lathe tools and now I have made the handles. I used ash for three and oak for two. What adhesive would you use to attach them together. Epoxy? Construction adhesive? J B weld? Help me out.
Once I get them together and try them I'll show and tell what I did. That is if they work.

Our under cabinet lights are switched from 1 switch.
Trying to figure out how to use existing wiring and switch to control 12 volt light tapes.
If I installed an extra box, next to the switch box, can I put a transformer in the box, and run the 120v power wire, into the switch box?
Then disconnect the original switched wires from the switch, and connect to the 12 volt output on the transformer.
